Everyone loves a secret and none have fascinated the world
more than the three secrets of Fatima given to Sister Lucia in 1917. In The Last Secret of Fatima the curtain is
pulled back and all becomes clear.
Written in Q & A fashion, the book’s content is derived
from a series of interviews Giuseppe DeCarli conducted with Cardinal Tarcisio
Bertone. The interviews were free-wheeling and expansive in nature. Each of the
three secrets, or messages, Mary gave to Lucia to hold for the Pope are
revealed in their entirety. Along with them, we gain insights into the
apparitions themselves when Cardinal Bertone details his meetings with Sister
Lucia. The book also discusses the way in which Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger —
later Pope Benedict XVI — viewed the messages.
For me, some of the most interesting portions revolved
around the attempt on John Paul II’s life and his subsequent Entrustment of
Russia and the World to Mary’s protection. A man with strong Marian beliefs, JP
II became known as “The Fatima Pope.” I feel I’ve come to understand him and
his Papacy in ways I never did before. The
Last Secret of Fatima is definitely recommended
reading.
